I recently opened my e-mail and found an invitation to participate in a novel conference which asks these questions:
1) Who and/or what frames the debate on aging? Is the politics of aging reduced to money and productivity? Is aging about wisdom, experience and guiding our present and future generations? Does life stop at the so-called prime of life or are the best years yet to come?
2) What really gives us joy and celebrates our existence? How can we experience endings as new beginnings? What are the opportunities to create our lives as we age? How do we cultivate what is latent and wants to come to the fore?
3) How do we care for ourselves as we age? At what point does care become an impediment, at what point is it truly needed and desired? What is the difference between custodial and relational care? How do we learn to listen to our ‘inner Elder’?
4) How do we revision our usefulness throughout the seasons of our lives? Who and/or what decides on how we use our potential? What ideas determine the roles which we inhabit as we age? How do we become the author of our lives in the context of community?
