I have always argued that ChangingAging has the internet’s best commenters, now I know, for certain, that it’s true. This comment is the reason I do what I do and why it is imperative that we succeed in changing aging.
It’s 2:15 am as I sit in a nursing home where my mother who is dieing with advanced stages of dementia and needs complete care. This is so emotionally, physically and exhausting for the many good nurses who provide care for the elderly. We need more help to “honor our mother and father” as they past from this life to the next. We can no longer keep them at arms distance as we are self absorbed in our self centered lives. My mother chose to give me life and provided love and support throughout my life. It’s amazing how uncivilized developed countries can become. How they care for the young and old will determine who they are in this world and what they will become. The elder people are human beings and deserve our respect and love. The nursing homes are so short staffed that they can’t truly care for the elder and rely on chemical restraints that silence the voice of the greatest generation. They still have something to say to this generation. Listen to them and hear ! their cries to remember who they are: human beings!
