National Nursing Home Week is a time to celebrate all those that are making a positive difference in the lives of thousands by combating loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
We invite you to add to the story, increasing the depth of possibilities we have yet to reach in honoring Elderhood and enriching our care partnerships.
Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS is a very lively place! Each community within it has their own Resident Council and they are all very engaged in daily life. If you are moving into this home, there is a buddy program where the Elders living here meet the new person, eat meals with them, invite them to events and check in on them. There is even a welcome basket you will receive. This home is filled with laughter and song everyday as a class of kindergarten children come to Windsor Place for school. The Elders are there to greet them each morning. The children sing their way through the dining rooms in the morning and the Grandmas and Grandpas read to them and help with class projects throughout the day. The Elders have stocked Snack Shacks in their communities where they can have access to the foods they love throughout the day. The dining room is open from 7am to 7pm, so stop in and eat whenever you want. They have the best breakfast anywhere, and it’s served all day long! The Elders love to follow the local high school and football teams, sending and receiving e-mails and Skype-ing with friends and family in their computer lab. The Elders have formed a Reflection Support Group and one of their projects involves being a part of the welcoming process for new employees. The Elders help teach skills in caring, for example how to give a good shave.
