Can you imagine spending a summer without ever being in the outdoors or countryside? Thousands of inner-city children spend their entire lives this way.
But it can be better. Every year, The Fresh Air Fund gives thousands of inner-city children in the North East the priceless gift of fun by providing free two-week summer vacations outside the city.
The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit agency that places urban children with host families or in summer camps to provide opportunities to experience the outdoors and expose children to a new world of friendship, possibilities and opportunities.
Today ChangingAging received an email appeal from the Fresh Air Fund because they are still in need of 850 host families this summer. We are happily spreading the message to support this worthy endeavor. Visit http://freshairfundhost.org/ to volunteer and learn more.
In addition to the value of experiencing the outdoors, children participating in Fresh Air Fund vacations get the opportunity to meet new people and build lifelong relationships. Sixty-five percent of children are invited back again by the same host family the following summer.
ChangingAging in particular urges any elders among our readers to consider hosting a Fresh Air Fund child for two weeks. At the core of our culture, children need elders and elders need children. Lets make a difference.
