The Eden Alternative mission extends past the walls of the nursing home and can be embraced by home and community-based caregivers through the innovative “Eden at Home” initiative. Eden at Home captures the essence and successes of the Eden Alternative’s Ten Principles as they apply to improving quality of life for elders living at home and their care partners.
We are proud to partner with the Illinois Pioneer Coalition to provide a dynamic education workshop introducing Eden at Home on Sept. 20, in Batavia, Ill.
Home and community-based caregivers will have the opportunity to explore how cultural perceptions of aging, disability and caregiving exacerbate the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom in the lives of elders and in those who collaborate in their care. They will lean how to promote a culture of meaningful care that does not see the needs of caregivers as separate from the needs of care receivers, but rather advocates for the well-being of the whole care partnership.
This is an excellent foundational workshop about the call for culture change in home and community-based living, and would be appropriate for anyone who partners in the care of elders, including the person him/herself.
