Kudos to actor Michael J. Fox for bringing his life to the public eye. Fox, 51, who has lived with early-onset Parkinson’s Disease for 21 years, will be coming to NBC in a new sitcom about a father of three living with a degenerative brain disorder.
In the past, Fox has worked through the challenges posed by his Parkinson’s for roles on several TV shows and public service appearances. Fox’s style plays on his own vulnerabilities to create funny, but personal and affectionate portrayals.
I am hoping that this sitcom will hit those marks, and will bring a more holistic view of degenerative disorders to the public eye, with heart, humor and hope.
And I’ll hope for the day when a similar show can be aired starring a person living with dementia.
