This month is Older Americans Month. This year’s theme is perfect for Arkansas. This has been the goal of our culture change projects all over the state. We are working toward an environment that encourages activity and fun instead of routines.
The U.S. Administration on Aging has provided a website which offers useful resources and tools to help you plan and promote events and activities honoring older Americans. If you go to http://www.olderamericansmonth.aoa.gov/, you will find a history on the celebration of older Americans, a link to a toolkit for activities, and a place to add your activity to the calendar of play! The Administration on Aging is encouraging communities and homes to send in their stories.
How great is that! We are being encouraged to remember that you are never too old to play! We are being asked to showcase our commitment to recognizing the contributions and achievements of older Americans.
We have many programs in Arkansas that show we are leaders in the recognition of our older Americans. How about your home? Community? We need to continue to fly our change kite! We need to tell everyone what we are doing in Arkansas! Everybody get your kite ready !
