From today’s BBC, inside the brain of Harry Yeff, aka beatboxer “Reeps One”. His amazing vocal skills were analyzed with MRI scanning.
Interestingly, his brain showed enhanced activity localized to two areas–the motor cortex and the cerebellum (which in this case probably represents well-tuned fine motor skills). The researchers’ conclusion is that a well-developed skill doesn’t necessarily enhance global brain activity, but rather it may be focused in certain relevant areas.
