“How did we arrive at this moment?” Dr. Bill Thomas asked journalist and marketing PR consultant Marsha Felton for a cover story profile in the summer issue of Active Over 50.
In a wide-ranging interviewing, Bill articulates the arrival of the Post War Generation into the next chapter of life and shares his unwavering vision for exploring life after adulthood. He discusses with Felton his pioneering work transforming health care and improving quality of life for older adults. And on the heals of this national Second Wind Tour and book release, they discuss Bill’s efforts to combat a culture obsessed with youth.

In the course of writing this story Marsha Felton came across one of my favorite videos of Bill from way back in 2009 — “Hello Oprah” — in which Bill makes the case that elders and the people who care for them deserve a place on Oprah’s show. Marsha loved the video and launched a new campaign on her blog asking fans to tell Oprah that elders still deserve a place on her new network, OWN. If you agree, please contact OWN via Marsha’s blog post and share it with friends! Tell Oprah that her audience wants and needs to hear from voices like Bill Thomas and, more importantly, the voices of elders who are central to their lives and communities.
i remember being contacted by aarp to join when i was 50 and thinking,”but, i’m not a senio?” first of all, i never liked the term senior, but that’s the popular term for elders. i’m 73 now and think i am an elder…a young one. i see people in their 50s and 60s as the new middle age and of course they would be active…i’m active and will be as long and as far as i am able. why wouldn’t anyone of any age be as active as they are physically and mentally able…any age!
Can’t believe you are 50 Bill. Thanks for all your hard work and continued health to you.
