As I’ve often said, I really like the way the internet and blogs in particular connects people and ideas. This just in from a blogger in Stockholm…
I’m a retired-from-the-business-world, politically left-leaning, middle-aged American expat, married to my favorite Swede, living in a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden, and blogging when I feel like it. This is the diary of my life. It’s rarely thrilling or titillating; just life as I know it. Pleasant, scary, challenging, good, outrageous, comfortable, delicious, funny, maddening, aging, miraculous.
She posted her views on the issues I raised in the Hello Oprah video, here is her post
There are many things I appreciate and admire about you and your TV show. And there is one thing I very much do NOT appreciate and admire. That is what feels like a huge spotlight on…do this & that – whatever – to
Feel Younger, to Be Younger, to LOOK Younger.I’m 61 and not only are these NOT the issues I care about but it also feels a bit like a slap in the face (not to mention a whole lot of denial). It’s like you’re constantly telling us that we should not accept being our age!
So I beg you, Oprah, to see/hear what Dr. Thomas of Changing Aging has to say and, while you’re at it, see/hear what Ronni Bennett has to say on her Time Goes By pages. (In fact, you would do well to hire her as a consultant for your show! She has years of experience in the TV world, I believe, and is intelligent, thoughtful, and dedicated to the topic of aging. And, no, she did not ask me to plug her!) Dr. Thomas and Ronni Bennett are both extremely coherent on these issues.
In other words, Oprah, we need you to GET REAL! PLEASE!
Thanks for ‘listening’.
