I’m in Providence this week. I had a chance to address the exciting 3rd Annual RI Generations Culture Change Symposium. Check out the husband and wife acting duo of Karen Stobbe and Mondy Carter–“In the Moment”. They regaled us after lunch with a collection of original sketches about aging, from humorous to heart-tugging. Be sure to catch them if they are in your area!
For my post this week, I’ll refer you to a classic aging sketch that has tickled us for a half century:
I live in Auckland, New Zealand.
I have been inspired by your book ‘What Are Old People For?’. I have been reading about positive ageing for two or three years now, and found your book a treasure chest. I recently gave a presentation at an International Careers Conference in Wellington, NZ, and called my contribution “‘At Your Age? : Career and Life Planning for Baby Boomers.” I use the model of Childhood, Adulthood and Elderhood as the significant stages in our life, and have based my central ideas around Elderhood. As I am a trained career/life planning counsellor, that is the my focus.
I acknowledge your vital contribution to my thinking when I present my ideas and model. I am not sure if there is anything else I need to do. Are you happy with this?
Yours sincerely
Margaret Merton
