More good news from Eden
Bill wrote about good news from Westwing Place at Genesis Medical Center in Iowa last week. Here is more good news on Eden from Europe:
1. A social capital study from Vienna revealed increased social ties between staff and residents and their families through Eden (I mentioned this study in my blog some time ago).
2. A occupational therapy Bsc project from Denmark asked a substantial number of staff about the psycho-social climate in their workplace, comparing Edenising homes with non-Eden homes, they found a 12% difference in perceived positive climate through Eden.
3. A research project from Germany indicates that staff feels that their workplace has much improved since introducing Eden, this was an investigation asking most of the staff in one German Edenisising home.
4. Another Edenising home in Hannover, Germany, has volunteered to be tested for quality by consumer-directed criteria such as dignity, privacy, respect, participation etc. Three day audits and lots of conversations with residents and staff let them pass the test in the first attempt.
In Europe we are thinking hard about an Eden registry. We are still thinking we might not need one, because, if we keep doing our job right, the general public and prospective residents and staff will find out that if it is good, it must be Eden.
