From The Green House Project Facebook Page, a Shahbaz* shares this gem about why she loves her job:
Why I love my job reason #792:
As we were preparing supper, an elder decided to go back to their room and started playing their piano. As elders in the hearth recognized the hymns and old time favorites that were being played, they started to sing along.
Later that evening we watched Lawrence Welk (a long time tradition for many of our elders). I had the privilege of experiencing elders who often are reserved and keep to themselves in the evening come alive as they recognized familiar songs of yesteryear and began singing proudly or tapping their toes along with the music while sharing their fond recollections of memories associated with the songs and dancing…and even a few comedic gems thrown in (my favorite line of the night: “we used to go barn dancing and the guy would say ‘swing your partner/ swing her again/ swing your partner/ and kick her in the shin!'” LOL)
I love what a powerful common denominator music is!
