Leave it to Californians to find a way to subvert suburban living into a radical social experiment. In Los Angeles Stephanie Smith, founder of the green-design lab Ecoshack, came up with the idea of creating intentional communities in existing suburban cul-de-sacs and condos so that residents could share resources, live greener and support one another, young and old alike.
