Eden Alternative Registered St. John’s Living Center in Jackson, Wyo., was honored this week at the Governor’s Summit on Workforce Solutions with the Innovation in the Workplace Award.
St. John’s was selected by the Wyoming Workforce Development Council for practicing the Eden Alternative. The Wyoming Business Report writes:
The organization was selected by the council for its Eden Alternative, which centers on being a habitat for human beings versus a facility for the frail and elderly. The Eden philosophy focuses on building relationships among residents, families, staff, volunteers and other community members.
Joan Evans, director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services and member of the council, said, “Culture is such a powerful tool in a workplace, and the council was pleased to see such a powerful shift in the culture of this health care facility in Wyoming.”
St. John’s Living Center is the only Eden registered nursing home in Wyoming. St. John’s began its Eden journey in 2005 and obtained registry status in January 2010. St. John’s has also completed Milestone 1 of the Eden Alternative Path to Mastery, “The Journey Begins.”
St. John’s has shared this update regarding their journey down the Path to Mastery on their website:
We look forward to working with all the members of our community as we complete milestone 2 “Educating the Whole Community” and Milestone 3, “Moving Decisions to the Elders.” As of mid-April, thirty-two Registered Homes have completed Milestone One and another 44 have submitted their Assessment Tool.
