Yesterday, I had an op-ed featured in our local paper regarding our need to deveelop communities that engage older adults. The article reflected upon the recent efforts of the CEO of our university hospital to create a more patient-centered approach to care, after his own experience as a patient after a crippling bicycle injury.
I applaud his efforts, but made a case for the larger issue of socially integrating people of all ages and abilities in our communities.
Ultimately, innovations in medical care will succeed best when coupled with a healthy community response to aging and infirmity.
