Django sends us this Conundrum
Till death do us part.
Mr. and Mrs. H. have been married for 62 years. Both reside in the Nursing Home section of a retirement community due to Mrs. H. advancing dementia and her increasing care needs. Though Mr. H maintains his independent residence, he chooses to spend most of his time with his wife in the Nursing Home. Mr. H guards his wife’s dignity like a soldier, always making sure that staff directly addresses Mrs. H with questions about her care, though she is unable to make decisions at this time. Mrs. H. frequently does not recognize her husband and expresses fear of him stating “who is this man? get him out of here before he hurts me” and she retreats if he tries to comfort her.
Mr. and Mrs.H both have the same attending physician in the Nursing Home. Four months ago, at Mr. H’s request, he was given Viagra. Concurrently, Mrs. H. began complaining of discomfort in her peri area. Mrs. H was referred to an OBGYN specialist however the order was cancelled after three unsuccessful examination attempts. The physician then ordered a lubricant for Mr. H. Meanwhile Mrs. H continued to sporadically complain of pain and discomfort. The Nursing Home staff became very upset. The social worker argued that Mrs. H feels raped every time her husband has intercourse with her, because she does not recognize him anymore. Others felt that intercourse between married couples was a part of marriage and the social worker should butt out.
