Hi Dr. Thomas,
My name is Ryan Thacker and I was one of the first Eden Apprentices. I was at the Columbus conference and met my friend Mrs. C. there. When I started, I didn’t know that an “old lady” would make a difference in my life. Then, I found out that the “old lady” was “an elder”, then “the elder” became “Mrs. C.”, then “Mrs. C.” became my friend. I happened pretty fast, and has grown since then.
I went to You Tube and made a comment about your video. I think it would be great for you to go on Oprah and tell everyone about how important our elders are and how we need to take good care of them.
I have been writing to Mrs. C. by email since we left Ohio. We talk about school, baseball, her trips, our families and lots of stuff. She gives me advice . She’s a good friend. I sent her the link to You Tube, so she could see that I wrote about her. (and so she could see you too.)
I’m also doing the Embracing Elderhood at my Mom’s work this year. A third grader and I are working as a team to record Mrs. E’s Legacy. I’ve known Mrs. E. for a long time, but we just started with the project. I think it’s going to be a fun project and Mrs E. is really nice and kind, wise and has taught me a lot about her life and the Civil Rights Movement. She lived through it.
Thanks for spreading the word, and I hope you make it onto the Oprah show.
