Every human generation has, in its time, yielded (not always happily) to the rising young. The Denialist movement within the Post War generation threatens, in unprecedented fashion, to deliberately break this ancient chain.
By clinging to adulthood and demanding both the full complement of adult rights and privileges and the special considerations and support given to older people, the Denialists court a potentially disastrous conflict with the Millennial and X generations.
We should all hope that such a war never materializes because any struggle that pits old people who are pretending to be young against those who are truly young will be nasty brutish and short.
The Post War generation’s next great challenge will be to exit adulthood and enter fully into elderhood.
